La geopolítica del libre comercio: impacto de la guerra comercial entre China y Estados Unidos en la renegociación del Tratado de Libre Comercio de América del Norte (TLCAN)

El presente trabajo busca analizar las causas geopolíticas de la renegociación del Tratado de Libre Comercio de América del Norte (TLCAN / NAFTA) hasta la generación del nuevo Tratado entre México, Estados Unidos y Canadá (T-MEC / USMCA). Consideramos que el avance de China dentro de las cadenas de suministro que ingresan al área geográfica de América del Norte, las asimetrías existentes en las estructuras productivas de México y sus dos socios del norte, así como las nuevas tendencias proteccionistas en los Estados Unidos generaron las condiciones para la renegociación del acuerdo, el cual genera incentivos para priorizar la producción de material industrial dentro del espacio T-MEC frente a la competencia proveniente de productos chinos. Se hará una discusión sobre los aspectos favorables y desfavorables para la implementación del nuevo tratado y las nuevas perspectivas sobre su posible impacto en la industria automotriz, lo que fue uno de los aspectos centrales que llevaron a su renegociación.
